Wall art over the sofa is the most often mis-sized choice in British homes. The wall above a sofa is the most-looked-at wall in the house, so the proportion has to be right. Get it right and the room locks into place. Get it wrong and the sofa looks bigger than it is and the painting looks marooned.
This collection is filtered by sofa width so you can see exactly what fits the wall behind a two seater, a three seater or a sectional. Originals and signed limited edition prints, all by Rebecca Grant.
The painting should be roughly two thirds to three quarters the width of the sofa. Always measure the sofa, never guess.
- Two seater (around 180 centimetres): painting between 120 and 135 centimetres wide.
- Three seater (around 220 centimetres): painting between 145 and 165 centimetres wide.
- Larger sofa or sectional (260 centimetres and up): painting at least 175 centimetres wide, or a signed set of three with combined width to match.

Sizing the painting to the table
Hanging height
Aim for the bottom edge of the frame to sit between 20 and 25 centimetres above the back of the sofa. The painting and the sofa should look related, not stacked. If your sofa has a tall back or a generous cushion, measure to where a head would sit and leave room above it.
When to use a single piece, when to use a set
A single, generous piece is the easier and almost always better answer for a sofa wall. A set of two or three works when your wall is unusually wide, or when you already have a piece you love and want to extend it. See living room art work for sets designed to hang together.

What is the correct painting width above a sofa?
Between two thirds and three quarters of the sofa width. A two seater of 180 centimetres wants a painting 120 to 135 centimetres wide. A three seater of 220 centimetres wants 145 to 165 centimetres. Larger sofas or sectionals of 260 centimetres and up want a painting of at least 175 centimetres, or a signed set of three matching the combined width.
Should the painting be wider than the sofa?
No. Wider than the sofa looks like a mistake. Equal width looks heavy. The sweet spot is just inside the sofa’s edges. Always measure the sofa, never guess.
What if my sofa is in front of a window?
Treat the wall above the window as the wall above the sofa. Use a panoramic format that sits above the curtain rail, or hang the painting on a side wall to one side of the sofa instead. Both work.
What print sizes are available?
Limited edition prints are offered in six sizes. Three rectangular formats follow the standard A series: A1 at 594 by 841 mm, A2 at 420 by 594 mm and A3 at 297 by 420 mm. Three square formats are 420 by 420 mm, 595 by 595 mm and 840 by 840 mm. Originals are unique pieces; sizes vary and current dimensions are available on request from the studio.
Can I commission a piece sized to my exact sofa?
