Scale, the part most people get wrongA painting hung above a sofa should sit between two thirds and three quarters of the width of the sofa. So a two seater of around 180 centimetres wants a painting between 120 and 135 centimetres wide. A three seater of 220 centimetres wants something between 145 and 165 centimetres. Choosing bedroom art Wall art above the bed, the size that actually worksA painting above a bed should be roughly two thirds the width of the bed itself. For a king bed at 150 centimetres wide, that is a piece between 100 and 115 centimetres. For a super king at 180, aim for 120 to 135. The bottom edge of the frame should sit between 15 and 20 centimetres above the headboard, or roughly 35 centimetres above the mattress if there is no headboard.
